What is Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is a style of yoga that invites the mind and body to relax and soften. Within the word ‘restorative,’ we have the words ‘restore’ and ‘rest.’ Put simply, restore means to return back to a former or original condition.

Daily stressors and a busy lifestyle can take a toll on our physical, mental and emotional bodies. This can look and feel like tension, overwhelm, anxiety, stiffness, annoyance, stress, and so forth. Restorative yoga encourages us to return back to a state of ease.

Individuals may describe restorative yoga as “adult nap time.” From the outside, it may look like participants are sleeping or just simply resting their eyes. Which, to be fair, you could totally be resting your eyes or even fast asleep!

Although there’s very little physical movement happening in restorative yoga classes, there is a lot of good internal work taking place!

This video is fantastic for those who would like to learn more about restorative yoga and all the AMAZING benefits this style of yoga has to offer!
